Lefkara Silver and Lace

The picturesque village of Pano Lefkara, nestled on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus, is known for its exquisite silver filigree jewellery and intricate lacework. These traditional handicrafts have been produced in the village for centuries, and are renowned for their beauty and cultural significance.

Local silverwork draws inspiration from the rich historical tapestry of Cyprus, incorporating motifs from Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The intricate designs are reminiscent of the island's cultural heritage, each piece a testament to the enduring legacy of craftsmanship passed down through generations. In contrast, the intricate lacework is a celebration of the surrounding flora and fauna, each stitch a tribute to the village's deep connection to the land.

In 2009, Lefkara lace was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The makers of Pano Lefkara take great pride in their work, and are fully committed to preserving the traditional techniques that began with their ancestors.
